Sean “Diddy” Combs Claims Netflix Used “Stolen” Footage

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ personal videographer, Michael Oberlies, has claimed that behind-the-scenes footage of Combs was released without authorization for the docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning. Oberlies said a temporary freelancer, filling in while he was out of state, shared the material, not him.

The clips show Combs in his New York City hotel room and interacting with fans just days before his September 2024 arrest on federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges. The footage also includes private conversations with his legal team.

Combs’ representatives criticized the series, calling it a “shameful hit piece” and accusing Netflix of misappropriating materials Combs has collected since age 19. They emphasized that no rights to the footage were ever transferred and highlighted that 50 Cent, a longtime rival, served as executive producer.

Netflix and director Alexandria Stapleton maintain that the footage was legally obtained. Netflix confirmed 50 Cent did not have creative control and stated the docuseries is not a vendetta against Combs.

Currently, Combs is serving a 50-month prison sentence following a split verdict, with a revised release date set for June 4, 2028.
