Nashville SC moved into the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinals after drawing 1-1 with Inter Miami on Wednesday night in Florida. The result helped Nashville win on the away-goals rule after both teams finished 1-1 on total score over two matches.
Lionel Messi gave Inter Miami a perfect start by scoring in the seventh minute. This goal was very special because it was his 900th career goal for club and country. Even after this early lead, Miami could not score again during the match.
In the second half, Nashville found their chance. A shot from Alex Muyl was blocked near the goal, and the ball bounced into the air. Goalkeeper Dayne St Clair tried to clear it, but the ball fell to Cristian Espinoza, who was standing free. Espinoza quickly took a shot and scored, making it 1-1. This goal helped Nashville go ahead in the tie because of the away-goals rule.
The match was played with high energy, but Inter Miami failed to create more clear chances after Messi’s goal. Nashville stayed strong in defence and managed to hold the score till the final whistle.
With this result, Nashville now moves to the quarterfinals, where they will face either Philadelphia Union or Club America. In another match, Club America also reached the next round after drawing 1-1 with Philadelphia Union and winning 2-1 on total score.
This match was also important because Lionel Messi reached another big record in football history. He is now the second player to score 900 goals, behind Cristiano Ronaldo.
