UAE and Japan Enhance Relations at CSPI Meeting in Tokyo

The United Arab Emirates and Japan held their third Subcommittee on Political Diplomacy and International Cooperation session in Tokyo under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI). Co-chaired by Reem Ketait, Deputy Assistant Minister for Political Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Iwamoto Keiichi, Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting focused on bolstering relationships.

Discussions revolved around the strong foundations of UAE-Japan relations, rooted in shared strategic interests and consistent diplomatic engagement. A key focus was the urgency of finalizing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to foster economic development and collective advancement.

The talks delved into multiple sectors for potential collaboration, such as the economy, space initiatives, cutting-edge technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital evolution. Both nations pledged to cooperate more vigorously in international and multilateral platforms to promote global peace, stability, and sustainable growth.

The two delegations shared insights regarding ongoing regional and international events, particularly the situations unfolding in the Middle East and Asia. They emphasized the necessity of dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful conflict resolution, focusing on the importance of humanitarian efforts, especially in Gaza and Sudan.

A commitment to ongoing consultations was established to bolster shared objectives and enhance the well-being of both nations. This collaboration is indicative of the UAE’s proactive stance in international peace initiatives while strengthening its bilateral relationship with Japan.

After the subcommittee, Reem Ketait met with Onishi Yohei, Japan's Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, where they reiterated the need for deeper collaboration through parliamentary avenues. Shihab Al Faheem, the UAE Ambassador to Japan, along with other UAE officials, actively contributed to these discussions.

This session reinforced the UAE-Japan partnership, with both countries expressing enthusiasm about exploring innovative trade and political partnerships. By prioritizing sustainable growth and innovation, the two nations aim to enhance regional stability.

The role of advanced technologies, including AI and digital shifts, was highlighted as central to economic and strategic growth. The two countries recognized that exchanging knowledge, research, and best practices will enhance the security and prosperity of their citizens.

Through these engagements, the UAE and Japan continue to solidify their roles as partners committed to peace, stability, and development, evidencing the significance of diplomatic alliances in addressing both regional and global issues.
