Saskatchewan’s first wellness centre of its kind is set to open in fall 2026 in Saskatoon, bringing advanced diagnostic and community-based health services to the province.
The centre will be located at the former Pleasant Hill School on 20th Street and will operate alongside the city’s first urgent care centre. Together, the facilities aim to improve access to timely medical services and reduce pressure on hospitals.
Run by Ahtahkakoop Cree Developments, the wellness centre will feature state-of-the-art imaging technology, including MRI, CT scans and ultrasound, along with an on-site pharmacy.
CEO Jay Ahenakew Funk said the centre will also focus on holistic care, offering mental health and addiction counselling, an elders program, and employment opportunities for health professionals. Staffing will be supported through collaboration with the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technology. Being located next to an urgent care facility will allow teams to work closely together, improving patient outcomes and continuity of care. A 150-stall parkade will also be built to address parking needs in the area. The $50 million project is expected to be fully operational in early 2027 and is seen as a major step toward easing long wait times by providing hospital-level diagnostic services in a community setting.
