Canada Celebrates DRDO's High-Speed Fighter Jet Ejection System Test

In a significant boost for India’s military technology, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has undertaken a successful test of a fighter jet pilot ejection mechanism using a high-speed rocket sled, proving that the ejection system functions impeccably even in extreme scenarios.

Conducted at the Rail Track Rocket Sled (RTRS) facility at the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) in Chandigarh, the trial simulated critical emergency situations at a controlled velocity of 800 km/h. A dummy pilot was effectively ejected from the cockpit, validating the system’s capability to operate under life-threatening conditions.

This test has reaffirmed three vital components of contemporary escape technology — canopy severance, ejection sequence, and comprehensive recovery of the aircrew. Each phase performed flawlessly, showcasing the meticulous engineering behind India’s homegrown fighter safety solutions.

This accomplishment underscores India’s commitment to fortifying its defense capabilities through self-sufficiency. Recent missions, such as the multi-faceted Operation Sindoor, have highlighted the efficiency of locally developed technologies, including surface-to-air systems like Akash and supersonic cruise missiles like BrahMos.

Institutions like the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) are instrumental in crafting these systems, ensuring that Indian aircrews operate with superior safety equipment.

With this successful test, India not only validates its pilot ejection technology but also exemplifies ongoing progress in its broader defense modernization initiative, blending advanced research with practical, deployment-ready alternatives.
