On Sunday, June 29, 2025, a serious bus accident happened in Northwestern Ontario, near a place called Stain Lake, close to Sioux Lookout. A bus carrying about 30 adults was driving on Highway 516 when it rolled over and crashed. The adults on the bus were all tree planters, people who work in forests planting new trees.

The accident happened in the evening, around 6:45 p.m. It is not yet clear why the bus rolled over, and the police are still trying to find out what caused the crash.

After the accident, emergency workers quickly came to help. This included:

  • Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)

  • Ambulances from Northwest EMS

  • Firefighters from Sioux Lookout

  • Helicopters from Ornge air ambulance

  • Workers from the Ministry of Transportation

A total of 25 people were taken to local hospitals with injuries. Some had small injuries, and others were more hurt. Sadly, one person had life-altering injuries, which means their life may be very different now because of how badly they were hurt.

The police are now investigating the accident. They want to know how and why it happened. They are asking anyone who saw the crash or has a video from a dash camera to come forward and help. People can also call the Crime Stoppers number to give information.

The accident reminds us how important it is to drive safely and wear seatbelts on all types of vehicles. It also shows how brave and helpful emergency teams are when something bad happens.

Many people in the area were shocked and worried when they heard about the crash. Local hospitals and emergency workers worked hard to care for the injured. The community is hoping everyone heals well and gets the help they need.

We still don’t know everything about what happened, but the police will share more once they finish the investigation. For now, people are being asked to be careful when driving, especially in forest areas with long roads and curves.
