Brown University Shooting Suspect Found Dead, Manhunt Ends

The intense manhunt following the deadly shooting at Brown University has come to an end after federal officials confirmed that the primary suspect is deceased. Authorities believe the individual died by suicide, with the body discovered inside a storage unit in Salem, New Hampshire, roughly 30 kilometres north of Boston.

Christina Sterling, spokesperson for U.S. Attorney Leah Foley in Boston, confirmed the development. Two additional federal officials also verified the suspect’s death. Law enforcement agencies descended on the storage facility Thursday night as part of ongoing investigations linked to the Brown University attack.

While investigators have not yet released the suspect’s identity or explained why multiple cases may be connected, federal prosecutors in Massachusetts reportedly prepared criminal charges against the individual prior to his death.

The shooting inside a classroom building at Brown University last Saturday left two students dead and at least eight others injured, sending shockwaves through Providence, Rhode Island. Mayor Brett Smiley said the prolonged search had left students and residents anxious and desperate for answers.

Separately, MIT professor Nuno Loureiro, 47, was found fatally shot at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts, earlier this week. Despite early concerns, federal authorities stated they did not believe the two incidents were connected. Loureiro was a respected faculty member in nuclear science, engineering, and physics.

Investigators relied heavily on residential security footage after the Brown University suspect fled on foot, as the campus building lacked sufficient surveillance cameras. Police released images of a masked man believed to be the shooter and appealed repeatedly for public assistance.

Although one person was briefly taken into custody shortly after the attack, police later confirmed the individual was not involved. The case remains under investigation as officials work to clarify the timeline and motive behind the tragic events.
