Antoine Semenyo Dazzles with Two Goals in Manchester City Debut

Post by : Mina Carter

Antoine Semenyo has quickly made a mark at Manchester City, making headlines by scoring in both of his initial appearances for the team.

The Ghanaian forward, who transferred to City from Bournemouth for £65 million, netted the opening goal in a 2-0 victory over Newcastle in the League Cup semi-final's first leg. His presence has infused new life and confidence into the squad, earning him the admiration of fans and teammates alike.

Just days prior, Semenyo demonstrated his goal-scoring talents by contributing to a staggering 10-1 victory against Exeter in the FA Cup. Although he had a second goal ruled out following a lengthy VAR check during the match against Newcastle, this only amplified the intensity of the moment for both him and the team.

Reflecting on his transition to City, Semenyo remarked, “The environment here is fantastic. Everyone is determined and focused on victory. Joining this group has really helped me acclimate and boosted my confidence immensely.”

He continued, “It’s been an action-packed start, but I’m adapting quickly and relishing every moment on the pitch. I'm bringing the confidence I had at Bournemouth and simply playing with joy.”

As the game wound down, Rayan Cherki added a final touch with another goal, solidifying City’s lead against Newcastle in the dying moments after the VAR interruption.

Despite the dominant performance, some players were visibly frustrated by the disallowed goal and previous match decisions. Manager Pep Guardiola pointed out two penalty calls that went against them during a previous Premier League encounter with Newcastle, increasing the team's frustration.

City captain Bernardo Silva expressed, “We could have been ahead by 3-0, but these decisions are part of the game. It’s annoying, but we must stay focused and keep battling.”

With Semenyo hitting the ground running and morale high, Manchester City appears poised to continue their push in the tournament.
