Police Probe Sexual Offences at Saint John Nursing Home, Dozen Seniors Affected

Post by : Samiksha

Saint John police in New Brunswick have launched a serious investigation into alleged sexual offences at Loch Lomond Villa’s long-term care facility after receiving a report from the home about troubling incidents involving its elderly residents. The investigation began on January 21, when authorities were notified by the facility about activities of a sexual nature that raised immediate concern and warranted police involvement.

Police have confirmed that at least a dozen residents of the nursing home — all seniors in their 70s, 80s and 90s — have been identified as victims in the investigation. Families of those affected were formally informed by the facility, and authorities say additional victims may yet be identified as inquiries continue.

According to officials, the suspect in the case is neither a current resident nor an employee of the home, though police have identified an individual connected to the allegations. At this stage, investigators have not released details on potential charges or the suspect’s identity, citing the ongoing nature of the inquiry and privacy considerations.

In response to the situation, Loch Lomond Villa’s leadership has said it has strengthened security and safety measures. An on-site security company has been brought in, and the facility is reviewing its procedures to enhance resident safety. Management says existing safety protocols remain in effect and are being bolstered while the investigation unfolds.

Local advocates for seniors’ rights and long-term care oversight have expressed deep concern over the case, highlighting the vulnerability of residents and calling for greater transparency and stronger protective measures across care facilities. The Department of Social Development, which oversees long-term care in the province, has acknowledged the matter but has not issued a detailed public comment.

Police have established a dedicated phone line for affected families and are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation, stressing that ensuring resident safety remains their top priority.
