An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 hit Ladakh on Friday, shaking the region for the second time in just a few hours. The tremor was recorded near Leh at a depth of 28 kilometres, according to the National Centre for Seismology.

Officials said the earthquake struck at around 10:10 AM. Earlier in the morning, another quake of magnitude 3.9 was recorded at 8:31 AM in the same area. This shows increased seismic activity in the region within a short time.

So far, there have been no reports of damage or injuries. However, such back-to-back tremors often raise concern among local residents. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation.

Experts explain that earthquakes can happen at different depths below the Earth’s surface. Most quakes in this region are shallow, which means they occur within 70 kilometres of the surface. These types of earthquakes are usually felt more strongly compared to deeper ones.

Ladakh is located in a seismically active zone, making it more prone to earthquakes. While the recent tremors were moderate, officials advise people to stay alert and follow safety guidelines during such events.
