This groundbreaking system provides dedicated runtimes, desktops, and user profiles specifically for AI agents. Accessible through Settings > System > AI Components > Experimental Agentic Features, these agents operate continuously, assisting with tasks like file organization, presentation updates, and managing media collections. Each agent functions autonomously, equipped with tailored permissions to ensure user security and privacy.
Agent Workspace works in conjunction with the Ask Copilot feature, merging AI capabilities with local file navigation. Instead of requiring full application launches, interactions are streamlined through floating windows, keeping the workspace tidy. Users receive visual notifications of agent actions via indicators in the taskbar—a green tick indicating task completion and a yellow exclamation mark for tasks needing attention.
Security Measures and Privacy Safeguards
The AI agents can access essential Windows directories such as Documents, Desktop, Downloads, Pictures, Music, and Videos, even if users have customized their locations. With read-and-write permissions, they can execute tasks efficiently. Microsoft stresses the importance of clear permissions to ensure users are aware of each AI agent’s capabilities, addressing any privacy or security concerns that might arise.
