Van Dijk Remarks: Salah Must Prove Himself After Benchings

Virgil van Dijk, the captain of Liverpool, expressed that Mohamed Salah must continuously prove his worth after being sidelined in two recent Premier League matches. The 33-year-old was absent in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over West Ham United and only featured as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Sunderland.

Despite signing a two-year contract extension in April, Salah has netted five goals in 19 games this season but has struggled to replicate the form that led Liverpool to league glory last year. Van Dijk emphasized that no player holds eternal approval, and consistent performance is necessary for everyone on the team.

“Mo has shown great form, but the manager made a choice for the last two matches. We are all aiming for the best for the club,” stated Van Dijk. He acknowledged that Salah remains crucial to Liverpool's objectives moving forward.

Currently, Liverpool finds itself in ninth place in the Premier League, accumulating 22 points from 14 matches, trailing 11 points behind Arsenal. Van Dijk reiterated that Salah is a remarkable talent and Liverpool requires him to return to optimal form for an improvement in results this season.
