Strengthening Bonds: UAE-India Joint Consular Meeting in Abu Dhabi

The United Arab Emirates and India convened for the sixth session of their Joint Consular Committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi. This gathering focused on enhancing bilateral relations and improving services for their respective citizens.

Leading the UAE delegation was Omar Obaid Alhesan Alshamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary of Consular, Passport, Visa, and Overseas Indian Affairs, led the Indian side. Both parties explored avenues to boost cooperation in areas of shared interest and exchanged best practices pertaining to consular services.

Alshamsi welcomed the Indian team with regards from H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, underlining that the convening of this sixth meeting embodies the commitment of both nations’ leadership to enhance their relationship. He expressed that this collaboration is rooted in deep historical, cultural, and strategic ties, which aims to promote mutual interests and fulfill the expectations of the citizens.

The agenda comprised significant topics such as improving consular cooperation, sharing expertise, and devising new methods to elevate the quality of services for citizens. Both delegations concurred that the exchange of knowledge could lead to superior service delivery and efficient management of consular matters.

On the sidelines, the Indian delegation toured the UAE’s innovative Smart Mission model, which serves as a pioneering initiative worldwide. This model leverages an integrated system of cutting-edge technologies and artificial intelligence to deliver modern consular services. The model is a testament to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs' commitment to enhancing consular operations, simplifying processes, and improving the customer experience for citizens globally.
