Trump picks Sergio Gor as India envoy Musk once called him snake

Donald Trump has announced Sergio Gor, his long-time aide and close associate, as the next US Ambassador to India. The nomination, however, has caught attention not only for Gor’s rising influence within Trump’s inner circle but also because of past tensions involving Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who once openly called him a “snake.”

Trump’s Big Announcement

Former US President Donald Trump made an official statement on Saturday. He praised Gor, calling him a “great friend” and one of the most trusted members of his team. Trump said Gor has worked by his side for years and has played a major role in building his administration and political campaigns.

Trump wrote that Gor, who is 38 years old, currently serves as the Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office. In this role, Gor and his team were responsible for hiring nearly 4,000 staff members across different departments of the federal government. Trump proudly stated that under Gor’s leadership, federal positions were filled at record speed, reaching over 95% capacity.

He also mentioned that Gor was deeply involved in his presidential campaigns and even worked on publishing Trump’s books, which became bestsellers. According to Trump, Gor’s loyalty and skills make him the right choice to represent the United States in India and also take up the larger role of Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

Gor’s Reaction to the Nomination

After the announcement, Sergio Gor expressed his gratitude. He said being chosen as the US Ambassador to India would be the “honour of my life.” He thanked Trump for trusting him with such an important responsibility and promised to represent the United States with dedication.

Gor has been close to Trump for many years, especially after the end of Trump’s first term in office. He also played a role in raising funds for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, strengthening his position as one of the former President’s most loyal allies.

Elon Musk’s Public Outburst Against Gor

While Trump showered praises on Gor, his name has also been linked to controversy. Earlier this year, Elon Musk publicly criticized Sergio Gor on social media. On June 19, Musk called him a “snake” in a reply to a post questioning Gor’s own background checks.

According to reports, Musk’s anger came after Gor allegedly convinced Trump to withdraw the nomination of Jared Isaacman, a Musk ally, who was keen to lead NASA. Musk claimed Gor was “breaking the law” by not submitting his Standard Form 86 (SF-86), which is a crucial document required for security clearance and background checks.

Musk had also worked with Gor briefly during his involvement in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an office aimed at reducing federal spending and downsizing government functions. However, Musk quit DOGE in May, saying he disagreed with Trump’s massive tax-cut and spending bill. The split deepened their conflict in June when Musk publicly criticized Trump’s policies, leading to a fallout.

Why This Nomination Matters

The timing of Gor’s nomination is also significant. Relations between the United States and India have faced new challenges after Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods. Out of this, 25% was placed as a penalty on India for purchasing oil from Russia.

In such a sensitive situation, the role of the US Ambassador to India becomes crucial. The ambassador will not only represent American interests but also work to improve ties with New Delhi and handle diplomatic tensions. By appointing someone he fully trusts, Trump is signaling that he wants a strong, loyal voice in India.

Sergio Gor’s Journey

Sergio Gor’s rise in politics has been fast and steady. He built his career in Republican circles, becoming known for his organizational skills and loyalty. His role as Director of Presidential Personnel gave him the power to decide who would join Trump’s administration across government departments.

He also helped shape Trump’s campaign strategies and publishing projects, giving him a unique place in Trump’s trusted inner circle. Now, with this nomination, Gor is set to step into a high-profile diplomatic role that will place him at the center of US-India relations.

What Lies Ahead

If confirmed, Sergio Gor will have a challenging task ahead. India is one of the world’s most important partners for the US, not only in trade but also in global security and technology. The ongoing tensions over tariffs, energy policies, and international alliances will require careful handling.

Trump believes Gor is the right person for the job because of his loyalty and record. However, the criticism from Elon Musk has already put a spotlight on Gor’s background and decision-making style. Whether these past issues will affect his work in India remains to be seen.

Donald Trump’s decision to nominate Sergio Gor as the next US Ambassador to India is both a show of trust and a political signal. For Trump, Gor is more than just a staffer—he is a loyal partner who has stood by him for years. For Elon Musk, however, Gor remains a controversial figure, someone he once labeled a “snake.”
