Pakistan And China Pledge To 'Unswervingly Safeguard And Develop' Their Bilateral Relations

Pakistan and China have once again reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their long-standing strategic partnership, with leaders from both countries pledging to “unswervingly safeguard and develop” bilateral relations during high-level diplomatic talks in Beijing. The discussions focused on economic cooperation, regional security, infrastructure projects, and expanding political coordination between the two neighboring countries.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang during his official visit to China. According to official statements released after the talks, both sides agreed to continue deepening cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which remains one of the most important projects linked to China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Chinese leaders described Pakistan as an “iron brother” and a trusted strategic partner. Beijing stated that China would continue supporting Pakistan’s economic development, financial stability, and infrastructure modernization. Pakistani officials also praised China for its continued investment and diplomatic support during difficult economic and regional security challenges.

The meetings included discussions on trade, energy projects, agriculture, technology, transportation, and industrial development. Both governments agreed to accelerate work on delayed CPEC projects, including roads, railways, energy plants, and the development of Gwadar Port, which is viewed as strategically important for regional trade and connectivity.

Regional security issues were also a major focus of the talks. Pakistan and China expressed concern over rising instability in the region, including terrorism threats, tensions in South Asia, and the situation in Afghanistan. Both countries agreed to strengthen security cooperation and intelligence sharing to protect regional peace and ongoing economic projects.

Chinese officials also emphasized the importance of protecting Chinese workers and investments inside Pakistan. In recent years, several attacks targeting Chinese nationals working on infrastructure projects have raised security concerns for Beijing. Pakistani leaders assured China that stronger security measures are being implemented to protect Chinese citizens and business operations.

The two sides also discussed global political developments and expressed support for stronger cooperation in international organizations, including the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Pakistan and China agreed to continue coordinating closely on regional diplomacy and international economic issues.

Economic cooperation remains highly important for Pakistan as the country continues facing inflation, debt pressure, and financial challenges. Pakistani officials hope increased Chinese investment and expanded trade cooperation can help strengthen economic growth and improve infrastructure development across the country.

China remains Pakistan’s largest strategic and economic partner, with billions of dollars invested through CPEC projects over the past decade. Supporters of the partnership say the cooperation has improved roads, electricity production, and trade connectivity, while critics have raised concerns about debt levels and

linked to some infrastructure projects.

Analysts say the latest meetings highlight the continued strength of Pakistan-China relations despite regional tensions and global geopolitical competition. Experts believe both countries see their partnership as important for balancing regional influence, expanding economic opportunities, and maintaining security cooperation in South Asia.

The renewed commitment also comes during increasing global competition between major powers, with China seeking to strengthen ties with regional allies and partners. Pakistan, meanwhile, continues balancing relationships with China, the United States, Gulf nations, and neighboring countries while dealing with internal economic and political challenges.

Officials from both countries said future cooperation would focus on long-term development, investment, regional stability, and people-to-people exchanges. Leaders described the partnership as “all-weather” and stressed that Pakistan and China would continue supporting each other on key political, economic, and security issues in the years ahead.
