Thailand is advancing its digital infrastructure strategy by approving four significant data center projects totaling $3.1 billion as of Monday. This initiative reflects the country's commitment to attracting both global and local technology investments.
Among these new projects, DAMAC Digital from Dubai plans to invest in an 84-megawatt (MW) data center, priced at 26.7 billion baht. Additionally, a local investor is set to create a hyperscale data center with a substantial IT load of 200 MW, requiring an investment of 54.9 billion baht. These expansions are predicted to greatly enhance Thailand's digital capabilities and generate high-quality employment opportunities.
Furthermore, Thailand's Board of Investment (BOI) has implemented initiatives to expedite $9.2 billion worth of stalled projects. Investors can now access industrial land more quickly, enjoy a reliable power supply, and benefit from expedited visa and work permit processes. This approach aims to minimize bureaucratic hindrances and foster investor confidence.
Through these advancements, Thailand seeks to bolster its status as a regional center for data storage, cloud computing, and digital services. Analysts believe that improved infrastructure and quicker project approvals could entice additional multinational tech firms to set up operations in the nation.
