Toronto District School Board Confirms All Schools Open Tuesday After Snow Day

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) has confirmed that all schools and administrative sites will reopen Tuesday, January 27, 2026, after a major winter storm forced closures earlier in the week. The board said in an update that although snow cleanup is still ongoing, conditions have improved enough to resume regular operations for students and staff. Families and caregivers are being asked to prepare for possible bus delays as street clearing continues across the city.

TDSB officials noted that crews worked through the weekend to clear sidewalks, school driveways and bus routes following the significant snowfall that blanketed Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. They reminded parents and guardians that, while school buildings will be open, travel conditions could remain challenging in some neighbourhoods and that extra time should be allowed for morning commutes.

The announcement comes after schools were closed earlier — including a snow day observed by TDSB and other district boards — to safeguard students and staff during peak storm impacts. With operations set to return to normal on Tuesday, the board encouraged households to continue monitoring weather and road conditions, and to check school and transportation notices for updates regarding delays or service changes.

City and TDSB crews have been clearing accumulated snow from streets and sidewalks since the storm, a process that may take several days, especially in residential areas where large snowbanks still hamper visibility and travel. Officials said the reopening decision balances the improvement of conditions with ongoing cleanup efforts, noting that safety for students, staff and drivers remains a priority.
