PepsiCo Revamps Product Line to Enhance Growth and Value

Post by : Bianca Hayes

PepsiCo is making significant changes to its global product lineup aimed at revitalizing growth in an increasingly competitive landscape. The company has revealed plans to eliminate nearly 20% of its existing products by early next year, reallocating savings to enhance marketing strategies and provide better value to its customers.

Based in New York, the iconic food and beverage company, renowned for its brands such as Cheetos and Tostitos, is also prioritizing the launch of innovative items with cleaner, healthier ingredients. Forthcoming products include Doritos Protein chips and Simply NKD options for Cheetos and Doritos, both devoid of artificial colors and flavors. Additionally, a prebiotic variant of Pepsi’s classic cola has recently been introduced.

This strategic shift arises in response to pressures from Elliott Investment Management, which acquired a $4 billion stake in PepsiCo last September. Elliott expressed concerns about stagnating growth, strategic inconsistencies, and declining profits in North America, prompting calls for urgent reform.

PepsiCo's approach entails examining its supply chain, launching more value-oriented products, and potentially revitalizing its board with global experts to spearhead growth. The company is targeting organic revenue growth of 2%–4% by 2026, building on a 1.5% increase reported over the first three quarters of the year.

This initiative also responds to years of double-digit price increases and changing consumer preferences, which have dampened demand for snacks and beverages. Strengthening the availability of affordable brands like Chester’s and Santitas forms part of PepsiCo’s ongoing strategy to address perceptions of high prices.

As PepsiCo streamlines its product offerings and accelerates innovation, industry observers are keen to see whether these changes will reinvigorate sales and bolster PepsiCo’s position in the dynamic consumer marketplace.
