Nigeria has revealed its 28-player roster for the upcoming AFCON 2025 tournament, with prominent forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman at the helm. Osimhen, who was honored as Africa’s player of the year in 2023, joins Lookman, who received the accolade the following year. This year, the award went to Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi. The selection underscores Nigeria’s determination as they gear up for another major continental competition in Morocco.

The Super Eagles will launch their Group C campaign on December 23, facing Tanzania. Subsequent matches will see them up against Tunisia on December 27 and Uganda on December 30. Both Nigeria and Tunisia are expected to vie for the top two slots, while the teams from East Africa aim to secure a third-place chance for advancement. The group-stage format provides additional opportunities for teams to progress.

Nigeria holds a rich legacy in this tournament, having clinched the championship three times, with their last victory occurring in 2013 against Burkina Faso in Johannesburg. In the most recent edition, the Super Eagles finished as runners-up to the host nation, Ivory Coast. With a talented squad that includes Osimhen, Lookman, and others, Nigeria aspires not only to excel but to reclaim their fourth continental title.

Prior to their journey to Morocco, the team is set to engage in a warm-up match against Egypt on December 16 in Cairo. Following this friendly encounter, the Super Eagles will head to Fes, where all their group-stage matches will take place. Fans are optimistic that the Super Eagles will leverage their experience and deliver impressive performances as they aim for success in the knockout rounds of the AFCON tournament.
