Mubadala Energy has teamed up with PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI), a central player in Indonesia’s electricity supply, to finalize a Heads of Agreement (HoA) for gas delivery from the Andaman Sea. This crucial agreement marks a significant milestone in Indonesia's energy strategy, particularly as the nation aims to bolster its energy security while decreasing reliance on imported fuels.
The alliance's primary objective is to enhance Indonesia's energy independence. By collaborating, Mubadala Energy and PLN EPI intend to lessen the country's dependence on LNG imports, favoring natural gas from indigenous sources. The agreement emphasizes the pursuit of sustainable and long-term solutions to cater to the increasing energy demands of the nation.
The HoA underscores a focus on gas supply for North Sumatra and Aceh, with a key emphasis on the Tangkulo gas field, situated roughly 65 kilometers off the coast of North Sumatra. This field holds over 2 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas, representing a crucial asset in addressing Indonesia's impending energy needs.
Abdulla Bu Ali, President Director of Mubadala Energy Indonesia, remarked that the agreement signifies the company's dedication to Indonesia's energy landscape. He noted the partnership aims to deliver sustainable and reliable energy solutions for the nation, marking significant progress in advancing the Tangkulo gas initiative in the South Andaman Sea.
As Indonesia strives to enhance its energy framework and diversify its sources, this partnership integrates Mubadala Energy's global expertise with PLN EPI’s robust local knowledge. Together, they wish to ensure a consistent and sustainable energy future for millions of Indonesian citizens.
Rakhmad Dewanto, President Director of PLN EPI, expressed enthusiasm for the Tangkulo gas field's development. He indicated that this collaboration will invigorate Indonesia's power sector and steer the country towards cleaner and more secure energy alternatives.
The signing of the agreement was overseen by the Chairman of SKK Migas, Djoko Siswanto, who stated that this collaboration represents a pivotal achievement in the development of the Tangkulo Project. The HoA will serve as a foundation for future discussions on technical and commercial parameters while solidifying both companies’ roles in ensuring Indonesia's energy sovereignty.
