Croatia's rising tennis star, Petra Marcinko, celebrated a remarkable victory at the 28th Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge, overcoming Russian player Vera Zvonareva with a score of 6-3, 6-3 during the final held at the Habtoor Grand Resort in Dubai. Demonstrating composure and precision throughout the match, Marcinko secured a significant win on UAE grounds. This achievement follows her recent triumph at the Fujairah W75 Championships, marking two consecutive victories in the UAE.
At just 20 years of age, Marcinko has repeated an impressive feat, achieving back-to-back wins on the ITF Junior Circuit back in 2019 by clinching titles in both Fujairah and Dubai. Six years later, she stands out as the first player to replicate this accomplishment at these venues. Following the final, she was honored with the champion title by Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, Chairman of the organizing committee, along with notable officials from the UAE Tennis Federation, including Ahmed Abdul Malik and Nasser Al Marzooki.
Adding to her impressive 2025 season, this title in Dubai reinforces Marcinko's strong performance throughout the year. She kicked off 2025 by winning her inaugural WTA 125 title at the ATV Tennis Open in Rome, and followed it up with victories in the USA, securing trophies at the Landisville Challenge and the Tyler Challenge in August and October.
The success at the Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge further solidifies Marcinko’s status as a standout in women’s tennis. Her unwavering consistency, self-assuredness, and continual development have earned her global recognition, positioning her as a future star to follow in international competitions.
