Ongoing Search for Brown University Shooter as Manhunt Enters Fourth Day

In Providence, Rhode Island, law enforcement intensifies its hunt for the shooter responsible for the deaths of two Brown University students three days after a devastating classroom incident. As the manhunt enters its fourth day, both residents and students remain apprehensive amid ongoing efforts to pinpoint the suspect.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, Providence Police showcased video footage from local surveillance, featuring a figure in dark clothing and a mask, who they suspect may be the assailant. Authorities hope that members of the public can identify the shooter through his distinctive movements or posture. Preliminary evidence suggests the suspect was present in the vicinity as early as 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, hours before the tragic event, pointing towards possible premeditation.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha stated that investigators are confident about the identity of the individual captured on video but lack information about the motive for the attack. So far, over 200 tips have been submitted, which are being meticulously evaluated.

The shooting took place in an open engineering and physics building while examinations were underway. Armed with a 9mm handgun, the shooter fled the classroom after the assault, leaving two students killed and eight others injured; seven of them required hospitalization, one critically.

Brown University, with its student body nearing 11,000, is enhancing security measures in the wake of the attack. They've doubled campus safety personnel and restricted access to buildings. Post-incident, many students have vacated the city following the announcement of canceled classes and exams for the remainder of the week.

Locals in the College Hill area are exercising caution, locking their doors as police make door-to-door visits seeking video evidence. Some families, including that of Patrick Moran, have chosen to keep their children at home for safety reasons. Public schools in Providence remain operational, but after-school activities have been suspended.

The two students who tragically lost their lives have been identified as 19-year-old Ella Cook from Mountain Brook, Alabama, and 18-year-old Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov from Virginia. Ella, a sophomore, was engaged in the College Republicans and was noted for her leadership on campus, while Mukhammad, a fresh-minded freshman with dreams of neurosurgery, was cherished as kind and helpful by his family.

Authorities are making a public appeal for any information that could assist in identifying the shooter. Mayor Brett Smiley reassured that no credible threats have emerged since the incident, yet the community remains vigilant as the search for the attacker continues.
