In a remarkable development, Saudi Arabia is poised to establish itself as a center for cutting-edge AI computing as leading technology firms AMD, Cisco, along with the local startup Humain, announce a collaborative project to develop expansive data centers. The initial venture will entail a capacity of 100 megawatts, exclusively dedicated to Gen AI video innovator Luma AI, which has secured this entire initial output.
Within this collaboration, Cisco is tasked with delivering networking and infrastructure solutions, while AMD will contribute its MI450 AI chips. Humain, supported by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, will orchestrate the project’s overall management and execution, with construction set to commence in 2026, utilizing entirely renewable energy sources.
This partnership follows a series of tech agreements forged during former US President Donald Trump’s visit to Riyadh in May, with anticipation of further collaborations as Saudi and US nations prepare for another meeting this week. AMD and Cisco will hold minority stakes, enabling them to benefit from potential profits and losses while offering technology and sales assistance.
Humain is also keen to broaden the scope of this venture to cater to markets across Asia, Europe, India, the Middle East, and Africa—effectively reaching around 4.5 billion individuals. Future plans aim at increasing the data center's capacity to 1 gigawatt by 2030, with several purchase orders anticipated for additional developments.
This initiative highlights Saudi Arabia’s strategic position in the global AI infrastructure landscape, capitalizing on its vast land, inexpensive energy, and international partnerships to cultivate a state-of-the-art data ecosystem.
