Sheikh Hamdan and Sheikh Hazza Inaugurate Liwa Festival 2026

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan marked the start of the Liwa International Festival 2026 during a ceremony in Liwa, situated in the Al Dhafra Region of Abu Dhabi. This vibrant festival runs until January 3, 2026, becoming one of the premier winter attractions in the region.

The leaders explored the festival area, receiving insightful updates on the various sporting events, cultural exhibitions, and entertainment options featured this year. Their tour included a visit to Liwa Village, the festival's central hub for culture and entertainment.

The opening ceremony dazzled audiences with a spectacular blend of light, sound, laser shows, and drone performances, culminating in a breathtaking fireworks display illuminating the desert landscape. Notably, the Al Fursan aerobatic team delivered a remarkable aerial act that delighted the crowd.

Attendees included prominent officials and royal family members, alongside representatives from the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and related government organisations involved in facilitating the event.

Under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan and organised by DCT Abu Dhabi, the festival promises a wealth of family entertainment options, live performances, and cultural experiences. Guests can take part in motorsport competitions, exhilarating dune challenges, drag races, freestyle exhibitions, and traditional activities like falconry and sand wrestling.

New features this year include the Extreme Mud Fest, exciting drone shows, hot air balloon rides, and weekend fireworks. A highlight of the festivities will be the New Year’s Eve concert and firework display, along with the debut of the Moreeb Dune Car Championship.

Bringing together adventure, culture, music, and family enjoyment, the Liwa International Festival underscores Al Dhafra’s growing status as a sought-after tourism destination, drawing visitors from across the UAE and beyond.
