Kasim Khan Calls for Immediate Action on Imran Khan's Isolation in Jail

Post by : Raina Carter

Kasim Khan, the son of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has expressed grave concerns regarding his father's treatment in Adiala Jail, claiming he has been subjected to “inhumane isolation,” which falls outside standard security measures. This assertion comes as rumors swirl about Imran Khan's health, including unfounded claims of his death while in custody.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kasim Khan noted that his father has been imprisoned for 845 days. He revealed that for the past six weeks, Imran Khan has been confined in what is termed a “death cell,” with no family contact. He emphasized the barring of his sisters from visiting, stating that he and his brother have also been unable to communicate with their father.

Kasim denounced the treatment, labeling the complete isolation as a calculated effort to conceal his father's condition and prevent the family from being informed about his safety. He warned that those responsible, including the Pakistani government, will face full legal, moral, and international consequences regarding his father's security and well-being stemming from this cruel confinement.

He urged the international community and human rights organizations to take action, demanding verification of Imran Khan's status, compliance with court mandates for family access, an immediate cessation of solitary confinement, and the release of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, whom he asserted is being politically persecuted.

Imran Khan's sister, Aleema Khanum, corroborated the family's ongoing struggles to meet with him, sharing that visits have been repeatedly denied in the last six to seven months, often cancelled at a moment's notice, adding considerable distress to the family dynamic.

However, authorities at Adiala Jail have pushed back against allegations of maltreatment and demise. They affirmed in a statement that Imran Khan is in “excellent health” and accessing all necessary care, dismissing rumors regarding his transfer to another facility as unfounded.

Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023, facing various charges he maintains are politically charged. Following a corruption conviction in January, he was sentenced to 14 years; his wife was given a seven-year sentence. His political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), previously claimed he was held in solitary confinement even before his conviction, exacerbating concerns about his prison conditions.

This affair has reignited discussions surrounding the treatment of political figures in Pakistan, capturing the attention of both national and international human rights advocates, as family members and supporters continue their quest for proof of life and humane treatment for Imran Khan.
