A 30-year-old Indian woman was found dead in Toronto, Canada, in what police believe is a case of intimate partner violence. Canadian authorities have issued a nationwide arrest warrant for a 32-year-old man in connection with the murder.
Police said they were alerted on Friday night around 10:40 pm after receiving a report of a missing woman in the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area. Officers immediately began an investigation to trace her whereabouts.
Early Saturday morning, at around 6:30 am, police located the woman deceased inside a residential property. Authorities confirmed that her death has been classified as a homicide, following which the Homicide Unit took over the investigation.
The victim has been identified as Himanshi Khurana, an Indian national. Investigators believe that the accused, Abdul Ghafoori, was known to the victim and that the two shared an intimate relationship. Police have released images of both the victim and the suspect and are urging the public to assist in locating the accused.
Law enforcement officials have appealed to anyone with information about the suspect’s location to immediately contact the police, stressing that public assistance could be crucial in the investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Consulate General of India in Toronto expressed deep shock over the killing and offered condolences to Khurana’s family. The consulate said it is in close coordination with local authorities and is extending all possible support to the bereaved family during this difficult time.
