In a significant safety initiative, Honda Motor is recalling 406,290 Civics in the U.S. due to a manufacturing defect that could lead to aluminum alloy wheels detaching while the vehicle is in motion. This concern has prompted anxiety among the owners of the affected models.
The recall includes select 2016-2021 Honda Civics equipped with 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels sold separately. The defect was confirmed by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which stated that the issue stems from the wheel hub assembly not ensuring a secure fit during regular driving.
Nationwide, dealers will inspect the wheels and replace the hubs and wheels as necessary. All repairs will be undertaken at no charge, prioritizing the prevention of accidents or injuries. Vehicle owners are urged to contact their local Honda dealership immediately to arrange for an inspection.
This recall underscores the critical need for regular vehicle upkeep and highlights the increased attention on aftermarket components, including those from well-respected manufacturers. Although Honda hasn’t documented extensive incidents, this proactive recall reflects the brand’s dedication to vehicle safety.
Owners are advised to stay alert and respond swiftly. Proper fitting of wheels and hubs is crucial for preventing hazardous road situations.
