Nuneaton School Closes Temporarily After Cyber Attack

Post by : Mina Carter

Higham Lane School in Nuneaton has temporarily closed after a cyber attack affected key parts of its IT systems. The school, which serves around 1,400 pupils aged 11 to 18 and is part of the Central England Academy Trust, shut on Monday and is expected to remain closed until Wednesday.

A statement from the academy confirmed the closure is a precautionary measure while investigations take place. Authorities and cyber security specialists are working to restore systems safely and as quickly as possible.

The school said it immediately implemented its incident response protocols, which included securing IT systems and engaging independent cyber security experts to investigate the breach. Families have been assured that relevant authorities have been notified and the school is fully cooperating with all agencies involved.

In a letter to parents, the school said the decision to close was "difficult" but necessary following advice from external experts. Both staff and students have been asked not to log into any school systems, including Google Classroom and SharePoint, until further notice.

The school reassured students who have already used their school login credentials that there is no immediate cause for concern, but access is being temporarily restricted to ensure maximum safety while the investigation continues.

Higham Lane School emphasized that the privacy and security of its community are a top priority. Updates will be provided to families once more information is available.
