Nvidia and Microsoft Join Forces with $15B Investment in Anthropic

In a bold shift in the AI landscape, Nvidia and Microsoft declared their collective investment of $15 billion on Tuesday in Anthropic, an AI startup based in California known for developing the Claude chatbot. Nvidia is set to contribute up to $10 billion, while Microsoft will invest up to $5 billion, driving the competition among major tech players in the generative AI domain.

Established in 2021 by former OpenAI team members, Anthropic is dedicated to AI safety. Its leading product, Claude, takes on competitors like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini models.

As part of their partnership, Anthropic is set to acquire $30 billion of Microsoft cloud solutions and implement Nvidia's state-of-the-art AI chips. "We’re increasingly going to be customers of each other," Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella remarked, underscoring a collaboration that integrates AI software with robust infrastructure.

This investment coincides with a growing trend of AI funding in the tech sector. Nvidia has emerged as a principal provider of GPUs for AI processing, while Microsoft is advancing its Copilot AI functionalities on Azure. Current evaluations place Anthropic's worth at $350 billion, making it one of the most esteemed private AI enterprises worldwide, trailing only OpenAI.
