Foden brace and Haaland’s run lift City to 4-1 Etihad win

Manchester City produced a commanding 4-1 triumph over Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium, moving to 10 points from four Champions League group matches while Dortmund slipped to 14th with seven points.

City set the tone early. Phil Foden put the hosts ahead in the 22nd minute after a neat pass from Tijjani Reijnders, then Erling Haaland — now on 27 goals in 17 games for club and country — added a second seven minutes later following a clever assist from Jeremy Doku.

Foden wrapped up a personal brace in the 57th with a curling effort, his first two-goal outing in a Champions League fixture. "Happy it's not just Erling scoring goals," Guardiola said. "Phil was just fantastic."

Dortmund responded when Waldemar Anton bent a free-kick into the net in the 72nd minute, giving the travelling fans something to cheer. City, however, made sure of the win with an injury-time strike from Rayan Cherki.

On the numbers, City outshot Dortmund on target nine to one, controlling possession and using the wide areas through Doku and Savinho. Savinho came close to a highlight-reel volley in the second half.

Dortmund coach Niko Kovac paid tribute to City's performance: "They played a very clean style of football and deserved to win."

Haaland stretched his Champions League scoring streak to five consecutive games, becoming the first player to net in five straight matches for three different clubs — Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Salzburg.

Doku underlined Haaland's broader impact: "He scored just one goal but is so much more than goals and assists. He provides so much and is so important."
