Manchester United soared into the Premier League’s top six with a commanding 4-1 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, powered by Bruno Fernandes’ brilliant performance. The midfielder not only scored twice but also assisted a goal, proving decisive once again for the Red Devils.

Fernandes struck early, giving United the lead in the first half, but Wolves’ Jean-Ricner Bellegarde leveled just before halftime. The second half began with Wolves’ Bryan Mbeumo briefly restoring parity, yet United quickly regained control. Mason Mount added a third in the 62nd minute, showcasing sharp finishing, before Fernandes converted a penalty in the 82nd minute to seal the emphatic win.

The defeat marked Wolves’ eighth consecutive loss, leaving them at the bottom of the table with just two points, eight behind the team above them, Burnley. United, on the other hand, moved to 25 points, level with fifth-placed Chelsea.

Wolves coach Rob Edwards lamented his team’s mistakes: “We got back into the game, but the goals we conceded made it impossible to get anything. We’re getting punished and must improve consistently – it won’t be a quick turnaround.”

United capitalized on Wolves’ errors early on. A lost ball by Wolves’ Andre led to Fernandes’ first goal, a shot that goalkeeper Sam Johnstone could only parry into the net. Wolves responded with Bellegarde’s volley, their first league goal since October 26, but United’s second-half display was relentless.

Bryan Mbeumo momentarily put Wolves ahead with a neat counter, but Mount and Fernandes quickly turned the game around. Mount’s composed finish followed a clever chipped pass from Fernandes, and Fernandes’ late penalty capped a complete performance by United.

Reflecting on the match, Mount said, “We created plenty of chances in the first half but were sloppy. The gaffer spoke at halftime, and we came out determined. We have to remain ruthless and keep converting chances. The three points are vital, but we can’t stop now.”

The win highlights United’s attacking potential and exposes Wolves’ continuing struggles, as the battle at the bottom of the Premier League intensifies.
