Tennis icon Roger Federer is set to make a spectacular return to Rod Laver Arena this January, headlining the “Battle of the World No.1s” to officially launch the 2026 Australian Open. This marks his first appearance at the venue since retiring in 2022 and coincides with the Grand Slam’s inaugural opening ceremony.
The exhibition match, scheduled for the evening of January 18, will feature Federer alongside former champions Andre Agassi, Pat Rafter, and Lleyton Hewitt, creating a star-studded celebration of tennis history.
Reflecting on his career in Melbourne, Federer said, “It feels like a lifetime ago that I called the Australian Open the ‘Happy Slam.’ I’ve experienced so many emotions on Rod Laver Arena—the joy of lifting the Norman Brookes trophy six times, the honour of playing in front of Rod Laver himself, and the overwhelming love from the Australian fans. Winning in 2017 and 2018 are among my most treasured memories.”
The event promises a unique mix of nostalgia, world-class tennis, and fan celebration, bringing together some of the sport’s greatest figures for an unforgettable night.
