RTA Finishes Significant 7km Road Enhancement in Al Warqa’a, Dubai

Post by : Bianca Hayes

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully finalized extensive road improvement works on Al Warqa’a 1 Street, covering a substantial distance of 7 kilometres in both directions, stretching from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to Ras Al Khor Road. This initiative is designed to enhance traffic movement, safety, and daily commuting for local residents.

Included in the upgrade were the transformation of four roundabouts into smart signalised intersections, which are anticipated to enhance traffic flow by up to 30 percent. These enhancements reflect RTA’s ongoing dedication to advancing Dubai’s transportation network and elevating life quality.

The project also incorporated a sweeping infrastructure upgrade. RTA has constructed 6,600 metres of state-of-the-art stormwater drainage systems, installed 324 modern street lighting poles, and created 111 new parking areas. Furthermore, pedestrian walkways covering 41,000 square metres have been developed to improve safety for both walkers and motorists.

Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, mentioned that this project builds on earlier improvements completed in June 2025, which provided direct entry and exit points linking Al Warqa’a to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. This earlier phase also included traffic upgrades on 13th Street in Al Warqa’a 1, covering approximately 8 kilometres, benefiting both residents and local schools.

Al Shehhi emphasized that RTA is devoted to developing a cohesive infrastructure, including roadways, lighting, and drainage systems, to accommodate Dubai’s increasing population and urban growth. Such initiatives support Dubai’s ambition to evolve into a smart, sustainable city, prioritizing resident happiness and improved living conditions.

RTA is concurrently upgrading internal roads in Al Warqa’a 3 and Al Warqa’a 4, with projects focusing on paving roads, creating pedestrian paths, adding parking spaces, and implementing new cycling tracks to enhance connectivity and promote sustainable transport alternatives.

Moreover, RTA organized an interactive session in October with residents of Mirdif and Al Warqa’a, offering updates on the Dubai Metro Blue Line project and outlining upcoming traffic changes during construction. This move showcases RTA’s commitment to community involvement, transparency, and leveraging public feedback to formulate effective solutions.
