Hong Kong’s anti-corruption agency has detained eight individuals in relation to the renovation of an apartment skyscraper that was engulfed in a devastating fire, leading to the deaths of 128 residents. This action is part of a swift investigation focusing on potential corruption involved in the calamity.
As reported by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), the arrested individuals include seven men and one woman, aged between 40 and 63 years. Those apprehended include scaffolding subcontractors and directors from the engineering consultancy, along with project managers responsible for the renovation.

The ICAC confirmed that its officials conducted searches at the offices of those detained, confiscating vital documents, bank statements, and project-related files.
