Mahindra has unveiled its ambitious electric SUV, the XEV 9S, in India, marking a significant milestone in the growing electric vehicle sector. This new model is a seven-seater SUV meticulously designed for space, power, and cutting-edge technology, providing families with comfort, practicality, and advanced features in an electric vehicle.
Unveiled in Bengaluru, the Mahindra XEV 9S is inspired by the company’s INGLO electric platform and will be available in six variants, with prices starting at ₹19.95 lakh. Bookings open on January 14, 2026, and deliveries are anticipated to start from January 23, 2026. The lineup includes a 70 kWh battery model and a premium 79 kWh variant priced at ₹29.45 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mahindra promotes the XEV 9S as both a spacious and adaptable choice for electric vehicle enthusiasts as well as a practical replacement for traditional combustion engine SUVs. The interior is crafted for comfort, quietness, and versatility, featuring a three-row setup that is ideal for families. Boasting the largest cabin in its class with 4,076 litres of space in the first two rows, it includes a 527-litre boot and a unique 150-litre front trunk.
R Velusamy, President of Mahindra’s Automotive Business, emphasized the vehicle's blend of technology and comfort, highlighting that the MAIA intelligent system introduces numerous high-tech features while ensuring a seamless, quiet ride. Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of the Automotive Division, noted that the XEV 9S is set to reshape the EV landscape by integrating space, innovation, and efficiency. Chief Design Officer Pratap Bose discussed the design philosophy, striving to create a personal sanctuary that showcases contemporary Indian aesthetics.
In terms of performance, the XEV 9S is equipped with high-tech LFP batteries available in 70 kWh or 79 kWh, offering a real-world range of up to 500 km. It produces up to 210 kW of power and 380 Nm of torque, achieving 0-100 km/h in just 7 seconds, and a maximum speed of 202 km/h. The vehicle’s fast DC charging capability allows the battery to recharge from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes. Its suspension system, featuring intelligent adaptive dampers and a five-link rear configuration, enhances ride comfort.
The XEV 9S is enriched with over 140 connected features, such as digital key support, personalized user profiles, live security monitoring, and a BYOD system for entertainment. Higher-end models feature Qualcomm’s 8295 chipset, dual wireless charging, and AutoPark Assist. Safety is paramount, with up to seven airbags, Level 2+ ADAS incorporating five radars and one camera, a driver monitoring system, 360-degree cameras, blind spot detection, and a robust body structure.
Inside, the SUV boasts ventilated seats in the first two rows, a powered boss mode, reclining second-row seating, dual-zone climate control, sunshades, lounge desks, and dedicated climate modes for pets and cargo. A panoramic skyroof and expansive dashboard screens contribute to the luxurious ambiance, complemented by high-quality upholstery and a serene cabin due to acoustic laminated glass.
The Mahindra XEV 9S aims to blend space, comfort, technology, and performance into a state-of-the-art electric SUV, positioning it as a formidable competitor in India’s thriving EV market. Prospective buyers can take test drives starting January 5, 2026, with bookings opening on January 14, and official deliveries commencing on January 23, 2026.
