A disturbing incident involving an Indian-origin cab driver has surfaced in California, where a young woman was assaulted after losing consciousness during a taxi ride late at night. Authorities have confirmed the arrest of the driver implicated in the crime.

Incident Timeline

The assault occurred on November 27, 2025, at approximately 1:00 AM when the victim ordered a cab to return home.

Location of the Crime

The crime took place in the city of Camarillo, California, after the woman had been at a local bar in Thousand Oaks.

Circumstances Surrounding the Incident

The 21-year-old had been drinking at a bar and was in a state of inebriation, which led her to book a cab for a safe journey home.

Around 1:00 AM, driver Simranjit Singh Sekhon, aged 35, picked her up. During the ride, she fell asleep and became unresponsive in the backseat.

Although the trip was marked as complete, the driver continued to drive around various neighborhoods in Camarillo, during which he sexually assaulted her while she was incapacitated.

Realizing the gravity of the situation later, the woman reported the attack to the authorities.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the report, a specialized police unit launched an investigation in November 2025. They gathered evidence and interrogated the suspect.

Sekhon was taken into custody on December 15, 2025, facing charges of rape involving an unresponsive and vulnerable victim. The police noted that the woman was unable to defend herself at that time.

Court Proceedings

During a court appearance, Sekhon entered a plea of not guilty, with bail set at $500,000. His subsequent hearing is slated for December 29, 2025.

Authorities have indicated that there may be additional victims, and the investigation is ongoing.

Additional Information

The name of the cab company has not been disclosed, nor have details regarding the driver's visa or employment status been provided.

This case has sparked significant concerns regarding passenger safety, particularly for women traveling alone at night. Police recommend that individuals remain vigilant, share their ride details with family, and seek help if they feel uneasy.

The investigation into the Indian-origin cab driver assault case continues, with further updates expected in the near future.
