Bangladesh Cricket Board Collaborates with ICC on T20 World Cup Safety

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has declared its intention to collaborate with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to tackle security issues as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 approaches. This announcement follows the board's initial hesitation to send its team to India.

In a statement made on Wednesday, the BCB confirmed it would work alongside tournament officials to facilitate Bangladesh’s involvement. “The ICC has promised to incorporate the board’s concerns into their comprehensive security strategy for the event,” it stated.

A virtual meeting took place on Tuesday between the governing body and BCB after Bangladesh requested alterations to the venue for its matches, all scheduled in India. This request arose in the wake of controversy involving star bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who was removed from his IPL team at the behest of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

As a result of the incident, Bangladesh’s interim government imposed a ban on IPL broadcasts, citing public disapproval regarding the player's exclusion.

The BCB has reiterated that allegations of an ultimatum from the ICC are “entirely inaccurate” and do not represent official communications. The board is dedicated to addressing the situation in a professional manner to ensure its team's seamless participation.

With recent tensions between Bangladesh and India—including social unrest and diplomatic friction—concerns over the team's security during the tournament have intensified.
