In a remarkable display of talent, Ayush Mhatre achieved his maiden T20 century with a dazzling 110 off 53 balls, steering Mumbai to an impressive triumph against Vidarbha. Mumbai successfully chased down a target of 193, clinching victory with 13 balls to spare and seven wickets remaining. Mhatre’s innings included eight boundaries and eight sixes, showcasing his explosive batting prowess.

Earlier that day, he was appointed as India Under-19 captain for the upcoming Asia Cup, adding further significance to his outstanding performance. Mhatre’s solid innings paved the way for a successful chase, with Suryakumar Yadav contributing 35 off 30 balls and Shivam Dube finishing with a brisk 39 off 19. Mhatre’s milestone made him the youngest player at 18 years and 135 days to score centuries in first-class, List-A, and T20 formats, breaking the former record held by Rohit Sharma. Notably, he stands as the third-youngest player to achieve a men’s T20 century after Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Vijay Zol.

Dube also showcased his versatility, claiming 3 wickets for just 31 runs in four overs, proving his all-round capabilities with four wickets to date across two matches.

In another exciting turn, Prithvi Shaw guided Maharashtra to their maiden win in the tournament, scoring an impressive 66 off 36 balls in a remarkable captaincy debut. They successfully chased 192 against Hyderabad, finishing the match with eight balls in hand, thanks to Arshin Kulkarni's stellar unbeaten 89 off 54 balls, which anchored the innings.

Meanwhile, Kerala faced challenges against Railways, falling short by 32 runs in their pursuit of 150. Notably, Sanju Samson, who had previously scored a half-century, managed just 19 runs this time, while Rohan Kunnummal, after an unbeaten 121 in the last match, only managed 8 runs.

In a riveting encounter, Haryana edged past Punjab in a thrilling Super Over after a competitive match. Punjab set a challenging target of 208, with Anmolpreet Singh sensationally scoring 81 off 37 balls. Yuzvendra Chahal was crucial with the ball, taking two swift wickets. Needing just one run to win in the Super Over, Haryana clinched the victory with a boundary on the very first ball, with Nishant Sindhu top-scoring for them during regular play with 61 runs off 32 balls.

Showing immense skill, Venkatesh Iyer led Madhya Pradesh with an unbeaten 55 off 34 balls, guiding his team to a comfortable 175-run chase, overpowering Bihar by 62 runs. Young talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi has shown promise, despite modest scores in two matches. In contrast, Baroda suffered back-to-back defeats, with Jitesh Sharma struggling to find form, scoring just 4 and 5 in the last two games. Puducherry's Adil Ayub Tunda has also made an impact, taking 4 wickets for just 30 runs.

The SMAT 2025 tournament is becoming a captivating spectacle, highlighting young stars like Mhatre, Suryavanshi, and Dube, whose impressive performances are gaining recognition from cricket aficionados and talent scouts alike.
