Following a violent altercation among rival tow-truck factions in Brampton, Canadian authorities have detained three Indian-origin truck drivers. The dramatic encounter, filmed and disseminated by police, has intensified worries about rising violence tied to tow-truck conflicts in the region. There remains an active search for a fourth individual connected to the shootout who has yet to be apprehended.
The incident unfolded on the evening of October 7 at approximately 10:45 p.m. in a parking lot close to the junction of McVean Drive and Castlemore Road. As two opposing tow-truck crews confronted each other, the situation escalated into a fierce exchange, resulting in numerous gunshots that incited widespread panic. Fortunately, only one person suffered injuries, which authorities confirmed were not life-threatening.
After an extensive investigation, police were able to identify three suspects linked to one faction involved. On November 20, officers executed a search warrant at a Caledon residence, leading to their arrest. The accused have been named as Manjot Bhatti, Navjot Bhatti, and Amanjot Bhatti. Meanwhile, the fourth suspect, who allegedly fired the weapon seen in the footage, has yet to be found.
Manjot Bhatti is facing a series of serious charges, including the reckless use of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited weapon, and more. His case is currently under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton, and he has been released on bail pending his next hearing.
The other two men, Navjot and Amanjot Bhatti, face charges related to being in a vehicle with knowledge of a firearm's presence. They have been released under certain conditions and will return to the Ontario Court of Justice for further proceedings.
Peel Regional Police are still pursuing the fourth suspect, described as a South Asian male wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, and white sneakers at the time of the shooting. Authorities urge anyone with insights regarding the incident or the suspect to reach out as the investigation continues.
This incident has underscored the alarming trend of tow-truck violence in Canada, with officials emphasizing the serious risks such occurrences pose to community safety. Additional arrests may follow as inquiries advance.
