Apple's iPhone 18 Series Set to Introduce 24MP Selfie Camera

According to a JP Morgan report shared by MacRumors, Apple is gearing up to upgrade the front cameras in its anticipated iPhone 18 series. This series is expected to introduce a 24-megapixel front camera across all premium models, including the iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Air 2, and Apple’s inaugural foldable iPhone.

This enhancement represents a significant improvement over the 18-megapixel sensors featured in the iPhone 17 lineup, aiming to deliver sharper images, superior low-light performance, and finer detail in portrait photography. The previous generation introduced an 18-megapixel camera, complemented by the innovative “Center Stage” feature that optimizes focus during video calls.

Interestingly, the anticipated foldable iPhone, possibly titled the iPhone 18 Fold, could feature Apple’s first under-display front camera, also at 24 megapixels. This innovation would permit a continuous inner display, eliminating visible cut-outs—a design achievement yet to be realized in Apple devices. The foldable model is expected to adopt a book-style design akin to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold.

While flagship models are set to enjoy these camera improvements, Apple's budget-friendly iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone 17e are likely to maintain a 12-megapixel front camera, ensuring affordability for mainstream consumers.

Additionally, there are indications of a shift in Apple’s release strategy, potentially moving towards a two-window launch schedule starting in 2026. The higher-end variants—including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Air 2, and foldable model—might be unveiled in the latter half of 2026, while standard models could debut in early 2027.

With these anticipated upgrades, Apple appears dedicated to elevating front-camera capabilities, responding to increased social media engagement and the demand for high-quality selfies and video conferencing.
