Vietnam and EU Enhance Collaborative Efforts in Innovation

In a bid to fortify ties in science, technology, and innovation, Vietnam and the European Union held a pivotal meeting in Hanoi between Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung and EU Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva for Research, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

The session on May 26 brought together senior figures from various Vietnamese ministries and underscored the commitment to boost bilateral cooperation in research and sustainable innovation, especially in the realms of digital transformation.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung acknowledged the EU delegation, commending the growth of Vietnam-EU relations in recent years across various sectors, including education and technology.

He remarked on the significance of the upgraded Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, formulated during the European Council President's visit to Vietnam in January 2026, which paves the way for broader collaboration in high technology and innovation.

Both parties expressed enthusiasm about the imminent signing of a Letter of Intent to enhance cooperation in science and innovation, seen as a vital step in linking Vietnam’s educational and entrepreneurial sectors with major European initiatives.

Emphasizing Vietnam’s promising growth prospects due to its youthful workforce, evolving digital landscape, and innovation ecosystem, Ho Quoc Dung affirmed the nation's desire to engage with the EU in areas such as renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and sustainable economic advancement.

EU Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva recognized Vietnam’s potential in innovation and highlighted the EU's role as a global leader in research investment. She shared that the EU intends to expand its support for science and innovation collaborations significantly in the coming years.

The forthcoming cooperation agreement is expected to facilitate increased Vietnamese involvement in Horizon Europe, a leading EU research and innovation program, while also fostering greater European investment in Vietnam to enhance technological capabilities.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the EU for its unwavering support and reaffirmed Vietnam's dedication to advancing cooperation in modern technology areas like clean energy and circular economy development, ensuring long-term benefits for both regions arising from enhanced innovation collaboration.
