A significant advancement in clean fuel initiatives is on the horizon as MENA Biofuels partners with Saybolt International to set up the UAE’s first independent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) testing and certification laboratory in Fujairah. This announcement follows crucial collaborations witnessed during ADIPEC 2025, highlighting the UAE's commitment to transforming aviation sustainability.
The lab, to be located within the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, aims to adhere to internationally recognized testing and certification standards. Once operational, it will offer impartial verification to guarantee that all SAF batches produced in the UAE meet global aviation fuel standards applicable to both local airlines and international markets. This development is seen as essential for establishing a transparent and traceable SAF value chain in the country.
This agreement builds on MENA Biofuels' existing collaborations with key national energy stakeholders during events like ADIPEC 2025 and the Dubai Airshow. The recent Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed with Emarat, ENOC, ADNOC, and Evertree are laying the foundation for an integrated ecosystem focused on feedstock sourcing, production, testing, certification, and distribution to airlines. Collectively, these efforts underscore the UAE’s emerging influence in advancing cleaner aviation fuels regionally.
With advanced fuel analysis tools, lifecycle-emission assessments, and feedstock traceability, the new laboratory positions Fujairah as a premier certification hub for SAF. This initiative aligns with the country’s ongoing efforts to initiate its first commercial SAF production facility in the emirate—a key milestone in establishing the UAE as a leader in sustainable fuel innovation and export-grade standards.
By launching this independent laboratory, the UAE enhances its capability to tackle escalating global demands for verified and reliable aviation fuel, marking a crucial stride towards a sustainable aviation landscape and a competitive future.
