In an impressive display of national pride and ambition, the UAE flag was raised high on a peak in the French Alps, alongside images of the beloved Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. This significant act was part of the ‘Our Flag at the Summit’ initiative, embodying the spirit of Emirati determination and excellence.
From Desert to Mountaintops
Aligned with the 54th Eid Al Etihad festivities, this expedition embraced the theme ‘From Desert Dunes to Snowy Peaks,’ symbolizing the UAE’s journey from modest origins to a global powerhouse. The event was a collaborative effort between Brand Dubai, the creative division of the Government of Dubai Media Office, and the UAE Skiers Academy, stressing the importance of community values and unity within the Year of the Community.
For the first time in 14 years, the UAE Skiers Academy collaborated with a government entity for this demanding climb. The expedition included a father and his sons, illustrating the significance of familial bonds and communal pride.
Intensive Training for a Historic Summit
Ten elite skiers from the UAE participated in a rigorous training program to prepare for the tough Alpine environment. The journey began in Dubai, followed by a 10-hour journey to Geneva and a 220-kilometre drive through winding, mountainous roads to the Valtourance resort, facing chilly temperatures between -3°C and -9°C to reach the summit, towering over 3,300 metres.
At the mountaintop, they displayed a 3x1-metre portrait of Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid, alongside the UAE flag. The national anthem resonated across the snowy landscape as the team captured this historic occasion through photos embodying loyalty, pride, and the UAE’s aspirations on a global scale.

Initiated 14 years ago, the ‘Our Flag at the Summit’ initiative aims to motivate young Emiratis to strive for excellence while reflecting national values through sports and humanitarian efforts. By planting the UAE flag on significant mountains worldwide, the initiative emphasizes the nation’s commitment to innovation, generosity, and leadership.
