The Zayed National Museum was officially inaugurated today in the Saadiyat Cultural District of Abu Dhabi as part of the UAE’s 54th Eid Al Etihad festivities. This significant event was attended by members of the Supreme Council, rulers, crown princes, and esteemed officials. The museum pays homage to the life and accomplishments of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE.
Through advanced technology and compelling visual storytelling, the museum narrates the history of the UAE from ancient times to the present. Its architectural design is inspired by the wings of a falcon, symbolizing the nation's ambitions and deep connection to its heritage and environment.
H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan referred to the museum as a celebration of Sheikh Zayed’s leadership, vision, and humanitarian values. He remarked that it serves as a bridge between the UAE's past, present, and future, allowing visitors to delve into the nation’s culture, traditions, and milestones across generations.
During the opening ceremony, H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and the other rulers explored the museum's galleries. The collection includes personal mementos of Sheikh Zayed, photographs, documents, audio recordings, archival footage, and archaeological finds. In total, there are over 3,000 artifacts, with 1,500 currently showcased, illustrating the UAE’s rich history and cultural journey.
The museum comprises six permanent galleries. Our Beginning narrates Sheikh Zayed’s life and the unification of the Emirates, while Through Our Nature delves into the UAE’s landscapes and sustainable practices. To Our Ancestors presents archaeological evidence spanning thousands of years of civilization. Through Our Connections emphasizes early community life and technological advancements. By Our Coasts celebrates the nation’s maritime heritage, and To Our Roots focuses on Emirati customs, values, and economic history.
It also features space for temporary exhibits and the Al Masar Garden, a 600-meter open-air gallery showcasing the UAE’s landscapes and historical narratives. The cultural program launched alongside the museum includes live performances, interactive workshops, guided tours, and activities catering to all ages, enabling visitors to engage with the UAE’s history and heritage in a fun and informative manner.
The Zayed National Museum serves as a milestone reflecting the UAE’s accomplishments and aspirations.
