President Donald Trump has announced a major expansion of TrumpRx.gov, a government-backed website created to help Americans find lower prices on prescription medicines. The new update adds more than 600 generic medicines to the platform, giving people more options to compare prices and save money on everyday healthcare needs. The announcement was made during a White House healthcare event focused on reducing the cost of medicines in the United States.
According to the White House, the expanded TrumpRx.gov platform is designed to improve transparency in the American healthcare system. Patients can now search for medicines online, compare prices at local pharmacies, and also check home delivery options from different pharmacy partners. The website includes discounts and pricing information from companies such as Amazon Pharmacy, GoodRx, and Cost Plus Drugs. Officials said the goal is to help Americans clearly understand the real cash prices of medicines without depending only on insurance companies or middlemen.
The newly added medicines mainly include generic drugs that are commonly used by millions of Americans every day. These include medicines for diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart-related conditions. Some of the examples mentioned by the administration include atorvastatin, metformin, lisinopril, and clopidogrel. The White House said generic medicines make up more than 90 percent of prescriptions sold in the United States, making this expansion an important step for ordinary patients looking for affordable treatment.
The Trump administration said the platform is especially useful for people who pay for medicines directly with cash or have high insurance deductibles. By comparing pharmacy prices in one place, users may find lower-cost options than their normal insurance co-payments. Officials also believe the system will increase competition between pharmacy discount companies, which could push prices down further in the future.
TrumpRx.gov was first launched earlier in 2026 with around 40 branded medicines connected to the administration’s “Most-Favored-Nation” drug pricing policy. That policy aims to make Americans pay prices closer to what people in other developed countries pay for the same medicines. Since its launch, the administration has continued adding partnerships with pharmaceutical companies and pharmacy discount services. The latest expansion is considered one of the biggest updates to the program so far.
President Trump said the updated website will help Americans find “the lowest possible cost” for prescription medicines. The administration also claimed the website has already received millions of visits and helped consumers save large amounts of money on healthcare costs. During the event, officials highlighted lower prices on several popular medicines, including treatments for diabetes and obesity.
However, the expansion has also received criticism from some healthcare experts and policy analysts. Critics argue that many Americans already receive better prices through health insurance plans, and some discounts shown on TrumpRx.gov were already available through other services before the platform launched. Others said the program mainly benefits cash-paying consumers and may not fully solve the larger issue of high healthcare costs in the United States.
Despite the criticism, the Trump administration believes the expanded TrumpRx.gov platform will increase competition in the pharmaceutical market and give Americans more control over how they purchase medicines. The White House described the move as part of a larger effort to lower prescription drug prices, improve transparency, and reduce the financial burden on American families struggling with healthcare expenses.
