The Department of Planning and Development – Trakhees, operating under the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has significantly enhanced safety and regulatory compliance by executing comprehensive inspections throughout 2025.
Using its Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) Department, Trakhees rolled out a robust inspection initiative focusing on industries, commerce, and public health establishments. The goal was to boost workplace safety, streamline operational efficiency, and ensure adherence to established regulations.
Throughout 2025, the team at Trakhees performed a total of 16,021 field inspections complemented by 15,627 document validations. This led to an outstanding compliance rate of 94.06%, while 5.94% of entities were identified as non-compliant.
The scope of the inspection program spanned numerous sectors, including manufacturing, heavy industries, chemical handling, logistics, hospitality, and healthcare, as well as facilities aiding public health such as personal care services. Inspections also included labor accommodations and community facilities.
Inspectors closely examined essential elements such as operational safety, machinery standards, emergency preparedness, hygiene, and compliance with environmental health regulations. Particular focus was placed on high-risk activities necessitating stringent safety measures.
H.E. Eng. Abdullah Mohammed Belhoul, CEO of Trakhees, reiterated that the inspection initiative underscores the department's unwavering dedication to high safety standards and fostering a secure work atmosphere. He affirmed that these efforts are vital in minimizing risks, safeguarding lives, and nurturing sustainable business practices.
He further mentioned that Trakhees is in a constant state of improvement regarding its regulatory framework, incorporating global best practices, elevating the number of field inspections, and enhancing monitoring tools. Their collaboration with various sectors promotes a culture rooted in health and safety compliance.
For establishments that did not meet the standards, violation notices were promptly issued with explicit timelines to rectify the identified issues. This approach is aimed at managing risks effectively and ensuring corrective actions are undertaken to avert future violations.
