In a significant step to alleviate living costs, the Thai government has broadened its subsidy initiative to encompass four major MRT rail lines. This expansion is part of the Thai Helps Thai Plus 60/40 program aimed at making public transport more accessible and affordable for all commuters.

As announced by officials from the Prime Minister's Office, the Blue Line, Purple Line, Yellow Line, and Pink Line will now participate in this relief program. The initiative seeks to support households struggling with increased daily expenses and aims to promote public transport usage in Bangkok and its surrounding areas.

Valid from June 1 to September 30, 2026, the scheme allows eligible riders to access fare subsidies via the Paotang mobile app, with the government funding 60% of MRT fares while commuters cover the remaining 40%.

There is a daily cap of 200 baht per individual and a monthly limit of 1,000 baht for subsidies. This initiative is seen as a significant financial relief for regular railway users who depend on these services for work, education, and other essential activities.

As the program aims to boost the usage of public transport amidst rising living costs, it hopes to maintain consumer purchasing power and invigorate the economy. Officials are optimistic about the positive impact of this initiative on daily commuting costs.

Moreover, the long-term advantages of choosing rail transportation include reducing vehicular congestion, lowering fuel use, and enhancing urban air quality. This aligns with the government's goal of creating a more sustainable transport network.

Eligible travelers can buy MRT tickets for single journeys through the Paotang app and redeem them at ticket counters across all participating lines. Services will operate daily from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., providing convenient access during the subsidization period.

Government officials have indicated that more initiatives to further reduce living expenses and boost public transport accessibility may be forthcoming. They reiterated their commitment to assist citizens in navigating economic pressures while enhancing safe and affordable urban mobility options.
