The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has released a weather warning urging residents across multiple states to brace themselves for thunderstorms and heavy rain. This advisory is valid until 9 PM due to ongoing unstable atmospheric conditions affecting vast areas of the nation.
Recent forecasts indicate that various districts in Kedah, including Baling, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu, are set to experience severe rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Additionally, regions in Perak such as Kerian, Larut, Matang, and Selama are under close weather monitoring as storm activity intensifies.
The warning also extends to the east coast, with areas like Dungun and Kemaman in Terengganu, and Lipis in Pahang likely to face heavy rainfall and strong gusts of wind. Local authorities are advising residents, particularly those in flood-prone regions, to remain alert.
In East Malaysia, significant impacts are expected in large areas of Sarawak, including Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri, Marudi, and Limbang, where thunderstorms could lead to localized flooding and disrupt travel.
Sabah is also predicted to experience heavy rains, with particular regions such as Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan, Tawau, Sandakan, and Kudat anticipating strong downpours and winds later today.
Meteorologists caution that thunderstorms can develop quickly, bringing sudden downpours, lightning, and reduced visibility. These conditions could hinder road transport and outdoor activities, especially during peak commuting times.
Authorities strongly advise the public to follow updates from official weather channels and take precautions. Residents should minimize outdoor activities, secure loose objects outside, and exercise vigilance as adverse weather continues to impact various regions of Malaysia.
