Singaporean officials have issued a clear directive to event organisers at Hong Lim Park’s Speakers’ Corner advising them to refrain from any displays or dialogues concerning the Israel-Gaza conflict. This caution comes ahead of a planned gathering, with regulators underscoring the importance of adhering to existing rules.
The warning was jointly delivered by the Singapore Police Force in conjunction with the National Parks Board. Authorities emphasized that the event is not permitted to showcase any flags, symbols, or coordinated actions linked to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Officials have reiterated that the assembly should adhere strictly to its intended purpose, avoiding the introduction of sensitive international issues. Any attempts to raise matters pertaining to the Israel-Hamas situation would infringe upon the agreed-upon event conditions.
NParks, the managing body of Speakers’ Corner, also specified that conversations and activities must not involve topics of race or religion. Furthermore, foreign participation is restricted under the site's regulations.
Speakers’ Corner in Hong Lim Park serves as a designated venue where locals can assemble publicly without needing a police permit, given they follow stringent legal and regulatory requirements. Authorities consistently oversee events to ensure compliance with these guidelines.
Police have confirmed that event organisers are informed of the stipulations tied to their approvals and have accepted them. However, officials cautioned that any violation of regulations, such as the introduction of banned themes or displays, may result in enforcement actions.
Authorities assured that close supervision will be maintained, with any departures from the prescribed guidelines possibly leading to investigations, emphasizing Singapore’s commitment to preserving public order and social cohesion.
