During its weekly session in Doha, Qatar’s Shura Council conducted a thorough review of the National Health Strategy 2024-2030. Emphasis was placed on enhancing preventive healthcare, upgrading patient services, and advancing digital transformation within the health sector.

The session was led by HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, with participation from HE Minister of Public Health Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud and various senior officials from the ministry. They discussed the key objectives of the strategy alongside the government's execution plans.

The council also condemned a recent drone attack on a commercial ship in Qatar’s territorial waters, labeling it a serious threat to maritime safety and regional stability.

The members cautioned that assaults on commercial shipping routes could detrimentally affect international trade and global supply chains. They urged adherence to international law and the principle of freedom of navigation.

HE Al Ghanim acknowledged the support of Qatar’s leadership in bolstering the healthcare sector, following the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. He reassured that the National Health Strategy aligns with the broader ambition to enhance the quality of life and foster a sustainable healthcare framework.

Minister of Public Health HE Al Mahmoud outlined three main priorities central to the strategy: promoting public health and wellbeing, refining patient service experiences, and bolstering the healthcare system’s efficiency and resilience.

The Minister noted efforts aimed at reducing non-communicable diseases like obesity and diabetes through targeted awareness campaigns and preventive health initiatives.

He further stated plans to enhance the national health insurance framework and improve financing while fostering closer collaboration between public and private healthcare sectors.

Expansion of mental health services, improved emergency readiness, and rapid digital transformation via integrated health data systems and AI are also on the agenda.

Council members highlighted the necessity of minimizing delays in medical appointments, enhancing healthcare access, and solidifying primary and preventive healthcare initiatives throughout the nation.

They advocated for increased investments in medical R&D and the promotion of mental health awareness, particularly targeting youth.

The council concluded by forwarding a proposed law concerning the regulation of petrol stations to the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee for further assessment.

Additionally, HE Al Ghanim provided insights on a Shura Council delegation’s participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean summit in Montenegro, focusing on parliamentary diplomacy, democratic resilience, and fostering international cooperation.

During the summit, HE Al Ghanim underscored the critical need for enhanced dialogue and collaboration among parliaments to tackle regional and global issues.
